'Swamp People' make appearance at Delta Downs

After waiting in line for up to four hours, fans were able to meet and collect autographs from six celebrities from the History Channel's immensely popular "Swamp People" series at Delta Downs racetrack in Vinton Friday evening.
Delta Downs purchased T-shirts for the first 1,200 people who came through the doors for the meet and greet session, involving several key cast members of the series that just ended its second season. The show is based on a group of alligator hunters in south Louisiana.
Vice President and General Manager Steve Kuypers had not anticipated having to turn people away from the race track, but the crowd just continued to grow with more than 3,000 people actually getting to meet the "Swampers."
"This is amazing," Kuypers said. "I had no idea this many people would show up for this."
Kuypers went on to say he was very pleased with the abundance of response, but that he really hated to have to turn people away who had been waiting in line.
"We just had to stop the line somewhere or these good people would be here all night signing autographs," he said. "We really enjoyed meeting them (Swampers) and watching them interact with the people. They are great."
The meet and greet started at about 7 p.m. and lasted for about eight hours.
At the first table was Theresa, Junior and Willie Edwards; at the second table, the Gator Queen Liz Cavalier (Choate); and at the third table, Trapper Joe LaFont and Trigger Tommy Chauvin.
The Gator Queen said, "I signed the last autograph at about 3 a.m., but I was not leaving while there was somebody who had waited so long to see me."
